  1. In March there will be a CLA summit in Austin.

Here is the link. To the NI discussion page

We are excited to announce the inaugural Certified LabVIEW Architect (CLA) Summit.

Attend the CLA Summit for the following opportunities:

    • Network, exchange best practices with CLAs, NI executives, and engineers
    • Preview and influence the NI LabVIEW roadmap and unreleased product features
    • Get exclusive opportunities to meet one-on-one with NI developers
    • Re-certify as a CLA with the NEW one-hour recertification exam
    • Provide feedback on the exam and other aspects of the NI certification program and community

More details and registration information are coming soon, but right now you have a chance to shape the event itself! The agenda includes time for CLAs to work through challenge problems identified prior to the summit, and then meet in person to discuss solutions and learn from each other’s implementations. You can influence the problems that we will discuss during the summit.

Visit the CLA Summit 2010 community page to talk about which problems are most relevant to you.

    Dates: March 8-9, 2010

Location: NI Corporate Headquarters, Austin, Texas

Cost: This event is complimentary as a part of your CLA certification. CLAs whose certification has expired may attend provided that they recertify at the event.

  2. The Icrons came in and they worked great.

They come with their own 5VDC 1.5 A supply and it must plug into the DAQ end of the cable not the PC end.

This caused another issue since the DAQ device is inside an electrical box stuffed full of other electrical equipment.

I have lots of room on the PC end of the cable and it would be nice if you could connect the power supply to either end.

But after cramming 2 more wall warts into the electrical box we fired it up and everything work.

We are running tests overnight to make sure it will be reliable over the long term.

I think for the final implementation where the cable needs to be 300ft form the DAQ device we will move to a ENET carrier.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

  3. Check out the guide I put together:

David I'm flattered that you joined LAVA for the sole purpose of answering my question.

Have you tested any of these with an NI DAQ USB device? (Please, no more links just reply to this thread)

No that it will be much help directly,

Thanks dblk22vball it did help. Now I see that this may be a more difficult problem than I had thought.

If you have been using it for a while and its stopped working. then it probably has developed a fault and just needs replacing. (Just though I'd clarify that since it was not clear).

If you quickly tested but found it unreliable over a period. Then there are a couple of things you can try (I presume you've eliminated the usual stuff like dodgy wires and poor connections).

What is the model/manufacturer of the device?

The device is made by "Black Box"

    Single USB to CAT5 Extender, 50 m

    IC244A-R2

    http://www.blackbox.com/Store/Detail.aspx/Single-USB-to-CAT5-Extender-50-m/IC244A-R2

We tested it breifly 3 weeks ago but were distracted by other issues at the time to fully test the reliabiltiy of the connection.

    Update:

After talking to NI support we covinced our selves that it must be a USB power dropout issue.

By the end of the day we had powered hubs on both ends of the extention and we would still lose connection.

Tomorrow we will try one that is rated for USB 2.0 speed and is externally powered.

I will let your know how it worksout

  4. I'm working in a food plant and we are required locate the PC 100ft from the USB Daq device during testing (Stay out of production's way).

The client bought a USB to Ethernet converter box to do this. It was tested with the system and it seemed to work.

Today it is not working. We can find the Daq device in Max no problem but as soon as we start acquiring data The device gets lost and Max no longer sees the device.

We took the computer and pluged it into the daq device bypassing the USB extender and sure enough it worked with no problems.

The USB to Ethernet convert specs say it can transmit up to 1.5MB/s. I am only sampling at 100 Samples /sec which is nowhere near that rate.

Has anyone else experienced a problem with USB extenders? If so how did you fix the problem? or

Does anyone know of a proven USB - Ethernet - USB extender that will work with USB 2.0?

    Thanks

    Mark

  5. Well I decided to take the plunge and volunteer for the FIRST competition here in Chicago. The local organizer is pretty happy to have me volunteer since she generally has problems finding people in the actual city to help out and I live in the city. Anyway I was wondering if anyone who has done this before has any good advice or suggestions for a newbie volunteer.

    Thanks

Did you volunteer to Mentor a team or are you going to work during the competition.

Thanks for reminding me to get signed up for the comming year.

I am very interested in getting involved this year and my team from last year has disbanded.

  6. Mark Balla's Icon Editor V2.7>= LV2017

    Mark Balla Icon editor V2.7
    December 2020
    Author: Mark Balla

    Description:
This is a text based vi icon editor

The purpose is to help quickly create text base icons.
The editor can be used in place of the standard NI icon editor or as a stand alone vi. see instructions.

    Version 2.7
Updated font table to recognize the standard "Small Font" letters used by the NI icon editor. This will improve the OCR function when importing icons generated by the NI Icon editor.

    Version 2.6
Added quick drop code to allow the user to switch between NI and custom editor.
QD_Swap Icon Editor.vi and support folders will be placed in the LabVIEW quick drop folder
    ..\National Instruments\LabVIEW 20XX\resource\dialog\QuickDrop

To switch LabVIEW to a custom icon editor that uses the lv_icon.vi set a shortcut key to call the QD_Swap Icon Editor.vi. Ctrl-Space Ctrl-<<assigned letter key>>

To switch LabVIEW to the NI icon editor that uses the lv_icon.lvlibp use the same shortcut key with the Shift key
    Ctrl-Space Ctrl-Shift-<<assigned letter key>>

    Version 2.5
Fixed install bug where lv_icon.lvlibp was not being renamed after LV 2016
2.5 was set to 2017 or later.

    Instructions:

    LV 2017 to LV2020 + Ver 2.7 +

    LV 2010 to LV 2016 Ver 2.4

Install using JKI VI Package Manager

    LV 2009 Ver 2.3

1:Rename the curret LabVIEW 2009 Icon editor LabVIEW 2009\resource\plugins\lv_Icon.vi to a different name so it will not be overwritten.

2: Place the three files (lv_icon.vi, color templates.bin and the folder lv_icon_Subvis) in the LabVIEW 2009\resource\plugins directory.
The next time the icon editor is called LabVIEW will use the lv_icon.vi instead of the standard one.
There is a button on the editor that will allow you to use NI's editor (Old editor not the new one) when a text icon is not desired.

For LabVIEW 8.2 Use the "MB Icon Editor_V2.3_LV82.zip" file
For LabVIEW 8.5 Use the "MB Icon Editor_V2.3_LV85.zip" file
For LabVIEW 8.6 Use The "MB Icon Editor_V2.3_LV8.6.zip" file

  7. Hello,

I'm having some issues trying to output data from an array to a table.

My array is of datatype long. I'm trying to use a for loop that will write each element to a table, I've tried using the "Index" tool under arrays, for some reason it is expecting an array of type double......I cannot find a way to change the datatype representation for the "index" tool.

Basically....all I need to do is take the information that I've gathered in my array and then output that to a table.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

    Chad

You can use the For Loop to do the indexing for you.

Also the Number To Fractional String .vi is poly morphic so you can wire the array straight in.

here is how I would solve your problem
