  1. QUOTE (Tom Bress @ Jan 23 2009, 05:54 PM) Speaking of which, has anyone seen the code in http://decibel.ni.com/content/groups/large-labview-application-development/blog/2009/01/23/architecting-an-application-to-avoid-spaghetti' target="_blank">this article? (btw, the article's a worthwhile read).
  2. I've openeed a project and got a broken arrow on a VI. Clicking on it opens the error list, but it's empty Any ideas? I know I've seen this mentioned before on LAVA, but I can't find it right now. PS: yes, "Tool Suite Explorer.vi" is my top level VI. EDIT: Nevermind - a LabVIEW restart fixed all
  3. QUOTE (Mark Yedinak @ Jan 23 2009, 03:43 PM) Congrats mate - well done! QUOTE (Mark Yedinak @ Jan 23 2009, 03:43 PM) ...having gone through the process I can definitely say that I have learned quite bit and I know the process itself has improved my skills. Well put - I couldn't agree more. I think that, irrespective of what anyone says about the CLD (and CLA for that matter), actually going through the process of studying to attain them makes you a better programmer.
  4. QUOTE (Smile @ Jan 23 2009, 01:01 PM) will the face always be level and facing the camera? You can infer the approximate location of the eyes based on a formula.
  5. QUOTE (David Wisti @ Jan 23 2009, 12:04 PM) True.
  6. QUOTE (jcarmody @ Jan 22 2009, 07:13 PM) Yeah - don't put 28V on the clock and/or data lines
  7. QUOTE (MikaelH @ Jan 22 2009, 11:49 PM) Do you know wha tthe numbers are? ie: how much we can allocate in the RTE vs the Dev Env?
  8. QUOTE (Antoine Châlons @ Jan 23 2009, 01:43 AM) Absolutely - go fot it!
  9. QUOTE (amila @ Jan 22 2009, 11:50 AM) Check out the VIs in the "Vision and Motion" > "Machine Vision" > "Locate Edges" functions palette.
  10. QUOTE (jed @ Jan 22 2009, 01:30 AM) The reference refers to much more than camera selection (and once the reference is out of memory then a textual representation to it is next to useless). You can use a property node to get the camera name and save that instead. You can also wire the string camera name into most IMAQ functions and they will create a new reference with default settings bound to that camera.
  11. QUOTE (mike_nrao @ Jan 22 2009, 10:58 AM) I would totally agree with your supervisor, but on a different level: IMHO the technology is released or it isn't. Sure, stuff that hasn't made it to NI-Labs yet might be less mature that the code on NI-Labs, but they're both in the same category as far as I'm concerned: unreleased. I would argue that your boss would see that the technologies are either in the released LabVIEW distribution or not, and would not see the distinction between unrelease NI-Labs prototypes and other unreleased prototypes.
  12. Can you post the ini file that it writes? Or doesn't it get that far?
  13. The first thing you need to do is define what you mean by "real time". I'm not sure your definition and the industry standard definition are the same thing.
  14. QUOTE (mike_nrao @ Jan 21 2009, 11:23 AM) Why not? I'm not saying that I disagree with you, but I'd like to know your reasoning.
  15. QUOTE (normandinf @ Jan 21 2009, 08:46 AM) I *think* 1-bit Booleans are actually described in memory as 1-byte (when in an array).
  16. QUOTE (Ton @ Jan 21 2009, 04:27 AM) I think what you're trying to get as is we should question: Is LabVIEW Scripting is mature enough for public consumption? Discuss.
  17. There was some tweeting today about how NI could transition LabVIEW scripting into the community, and one suggestion was to release it to NI Labs. Discuss.
  18. QUOTE (ned @ Jan 20 2009, 10:26 AM) That's a really important one - it's a filter I use on resumes I get. If the candidate doesn't know the correct capitalization either they're lazy or don't know enough about lABview
  19. QUOTE (Gary Rubin @ Jan 19 2009, 02:24 PM) Damn decaf
  20. QUOTE (bsvingen @ Jan 18 2009, 04:55 PM) I'd like to see this become a http://wiki.lavag.org/' rel='nofollow' target="_blank">LabVIEWwiki item...
  21. QUOTE (zmarcoz @ Jan 17 2009, 12:24 AM) What a sad story. I'm sure I don't appreciate your situation fully, but good luck. QUOTE (jcarmody @ Jan 17 2009, 10:00 AM) I've worked a lot of hours and still look back and shake my head at some of the programs I've written! I think we all have days like that QUOTE (jcarmody @ Jan 17 2009, 10:00 AM) I've toyed with the idea of sitting for the CLA exam. I doubt that I'd pass it the first time, but I'd sure learn the test. Hint: Do the Advanced course - do the exercises QUOTE (jcarmody @ Jan 17 2009, 10:00 AM) I've begun working with the OpenG project in an effort to learn more of the "architect" and team-oriented development stuff that is expected of a CLA. I expect this will be a mutually beneficial relationship in that I'll grow as a developer and, in exchange, I'll work on Open Source software that many of us use. Talk about a win-win situation! Damn right! OpenG can always do with more passionate process-orientated engineers. "mutually beneficial" is absolutely true - we can't survive as a community without giving something back, and participation in the open source community is a big part of that. I know I've leaned a lot from being involved.

  23. QUOTE (PJM_labview @ Jan 16 2009, 07:42 PM) Yeah, I thought of that, but I don't want them to necessarily snap to the granulatity of a pre-defined grid. Thanks anyway...

  25. This might sound like an odd request, but I'd like to see the "Resize Objects" button in the toolbar on the block diagram. I've got a few loops that I'd like to quickly make all the same size, and I can't do it (unless there's something I'm missing?)
