I just add to know what this meant
Grampa_of_Oliva_n_Eden replied to Francois Normandin's topic in LAVA Lounge
Let me pass along a "Thank You" from "The Princess"* for brining that quote and its translation to my attention. She enjoyed it and it got her thinking and that is always a good thing in her book. Ben * My wife -
How can we take global warming seriously when it looks like hell is about to freeze over? See quote from Tbob below The following was posted in the Breakpoint on the dark side by Tbob. see here http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=BreakPoint&message.id=10388&query.id=2672874#M10388 " Here is a cajun Boudreaux/Thibodeaux joke about the Saints: Boudreaux and Thibodeaux died and went to hell. The devil asked them if it was hot enough. Boudreaux replied, "What do you think Thib? About a typical day in June huh!" The devil gets pissed, turns up the furnace. Now everyone is sweating buckshot. Devil asks again and Boudreaux replies, "Hmmm, about the same as a typical day in July huh Thib." The devil gets even madder and turns the heat up full blast. Sweat is just pouring from everyone. Devil asks again and Boudreaus says, "Whew it is hot, about the same as a typical day in August." Thibodeaux replies, "Yeah that's just about right." Devil is extremely angry, shuts down the furnace and turns on the A/C full blast. Sweat turned to icicles. Boudreaux and Thibodeaux are dancing and singing and carrying on. The Devil shouts out, "What the hell is going on now?" They both replied joyfully, "The Saints won the Super Bowl, the Saints won the Super Bowl!!!!" Hey, it could happen! "

My reply at that time was "Not in MY back yard." Ben

Agreed, but the devil is off-topic for this thread. Ben

Dynamic Dispatching on User Events
Grampa_of_Oliva_n_Eden replied to Daklu's topic in User Interface
Now if we could only play as fast as y'all develop.... I strongly agree with omiting the checks for performance reasons. Type casting is a powerful tool and as my brother demonstarted* last year with a nail gun, powerful tools should only be used with great caution. Ben * Bruce: Oh no, I Fu#$ed up!" Ben: Are you OK? Bruce: No. I meet my brother in the hallway and he is holding a 2X4 in an odd manner. Ben: You hold your finger and I'll pull the board . . . Such is life in the Rayner Family. -
Logging in LVOOP projects
Grampa_of_Oliva_n_Eden replied to dim_V's topic in Object-Oriented Programming
Adding to that list... Code is close so if there is a problem you can't get at it to fix it. Required system resource are un-documented so managing DSC in a secure environment can be a nightmare. Ben -
I was first introduced to the idea of global warming when I was working for academia. I used to stand outside with the head of the under-grad program and smoke cigars with him and another emeritus who's retiremnet interest was the physics of health. One of them said "Where exactly do we stick the thermometer to measure the temperature of the earth?" and the other one said "how do you do a scientific experiment to prove it one way or the other, without a control?' So I FEEL "They can't" prove it and without proof it can only be a theory. So continuing with your thought this should not be a question of politics and that is part of my beef that the politicians have no fact to justify what they are trying to do (unless you are the same page a Danny Glover (sp?) who stated the Haiti earthquake was due to no action being taken in Copenhagen). Get cursor values from 3D graph....
Grampa_of_Oliva_n_Eden replied to PA-Paul's topic in LabVIEW General
That would be the index of the cursor. Note CW use 1 based indexes so the first cursor is at index 1. THis thread on the dark side offers tips to hwo to use the 3d graphs. http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&view=by_date_ascending&message.id=161218#M161218 This one apperntly has an example for grabbing the curso values. http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&view=by_date_ascending&message.id=108612#M108612 Ben -
packing and unpacking serial data, fast
Grampa_of_Oliva_n_Eden replied to lecroy's topic in Application Design & Architecture
the Bit Twiddler challenge is probably a good place to start. http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/5307 This tag cloud on the Inplacness-algorithm may also help. http://forums.ni.com/ni/tagging/view_tag?tag.text=Inplaceness-Algorithm Ben -
Drag cursor on 3d parametric graph
Grampa_of_Oliva_n_Eden replied to wallage's topic in Application Design & Architecture
If you do not have that option you may be using the new version and I will not be able to help. You can still use the old version but LV does not make it easy to get at the old version. The easiset way to find the old is to open an example that uses the old one. If you serach the NI forums for "Ben 3d" you should find a pile of examples. Ben -
Drag cursor on 3d parametric graph
Grampa_of_Oliva_n_Eden replied to wallage's topic in Application Design & Architecture
Did you try... CW3dGraph >>> Properties >>> Graph >>> General >>> Track Mode >>> Cursors ? Ben -
Yes. drop a zero ms wait in the loop to tell the sceduler "run this fast as possible but gives others a chance at the CPU once per iteration." Ben

LOL. Ben

I am glad you did not. your willingness to act a sounding borad is greatly appreciated. Ben

I agree with many of those issue but do not feel that CRELF is responcible or falling for it. NOTE: the following ideas are limited to the period prior to 1933! (prior to that group that shall remain nameless* I have been reading a lot of history over the last couple of years since I "sensed" something was happening but did not know what. So rewsponding to the expression "WE can only look into the future by standing on the shoulders of the past" and "Those that fail to study history are doomed to repeat it." I strted to study what I had available. After completing "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reicht" by Sheierer (sp?) I dived into Winston Churchill's "The History of the second World War" and am currently reading volume 4 or the 6 part series. I am concerened the US is walking the path of the Weimar Republic and with the monitizing of the debt leading to hyperinflation. The US is spending more than we are producing so unless something changes, hyperinfltaion should be expected and with that the collapse of teh economy. If that happens the goals of Cloward & Pivan will be realized. So what will happen next? I'll let you "stand on the shoulders of the past" and judge for yourself. Speaking as one who is concerned over that thing my fore-fathers brought forth and my ancestors and myself swore to defend, Ben * The group that shall remain nameless - I feel like I am wimping out by using that phrase but in the interest of the life of this excellent thought provoking thread, I will leave it at that.

I wrote one of those but can't share the code. This thread has some topics that you may find interesting. http://lavag.org/topic/7953-how-do-i-clone-a-lvoop-class/ Part of the req was that I had to deploy new control that the user could include in the GUI designs. Since the customer always wore Disney themed shirts, I adeed a Goofey boolean while he watched! He liked it. Ben

Seems to be rather common condition round here. Ben Chris, Re: your Q about re-use project in my project. In this last project I put the re-use project in the app project just as an experiment. I latter added virtual folder to the main app for the re-use stuff to make it easier to find. BUT I don't pretend to know which method is better. Care to share your thougths? Ben

Reply #26 (you will probaly have to click for page 2) in this thread on the dark-side has images contrasting the folder vs Project views. http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&thread.id=378937&view=by_date_ascending&page=1 and another one from the Dark-side http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=392299&query.id=518014#M392299 Ben

And here I have been working to ensure there is little or nothing showing in dependacies! I use the project to give me a more logical organization than just using folders. i think it was Aristos Queue who was talking about organizing files in-side a class and as far as LVOOPwas concerned it prefered to find all files in the same folder as the class or in a sub-folder of same. A large class would be hard to navagate if we just mimic the folder structure in the project. So I'll create vitrual folders in the project that break down the functions logically. So the project lets me organize things better. I also like the ability to keep support files in the project and I include them in Source Distributions that I use to occationally clean-up the project folder and wipe out the orphans. I have alos used a project for my re-use stuff. Ben

Including cluster order. Better off with the Type-def. Ben

I just got the word that I pased the CLA re-certification exam.... after having submitted a LVOOP solution. Koolaid, it would take a gallon of jungle juice to cancel the effect of teh adrenalin I'm experiencing right now. Woot and double-woot! Ben PS: Discalimer! I am certain my LVOOP solution did not earn me a pile of points, but at least the LVOOP app did not LOOSE too many points.

This contradict your book! Do you share the Neanderthalian thought or not yourself? Curious, Ben

THank you Paul! Paraphrasing something I think came from Jefferson "Truth can stand the test of debate." (Don't go trying to find the quote using any of those words). It is when debate is stiffled that the truth becomes questionable. Ben

I feel a comercial product developing here... now inspired by the "The man said Ta-Da." commecial... Include motion sensors and a built in projector it could project giant "Pooowwww" "Kerplomp" , etc on the walls so we can all enjoy being Batman (or Bat Girl) if we want. Add the ability to upload your favorite comic hero ... Ben
