Modifying Controls in different frames of a State Machine
Mark Balla replied to Diego Reyes's topic in User Interface
QUOTE (Diego Reyes @ May 1 2009, 05:52 PM) QUOTE (Chris Davis @ May 1 2009, 10:20 PM) You may also want to look at using a subVI that has the ability to change the same property(or properties) on controls by the label text of a control. All control references can be gathered dynamically from LabVIEW using the built in VI Server methods (All Controls []), then label text can be gathered in a for loop and searched to find specific references. I don't have an example with me, and I don't have LabVIEW loaded, but if this doesn't make sense, I can upload a snap shot. Chris Here is an example of what Chris is talking about. I use this method when I need to disable/hide several controls or groups of controls. Download File:post-584-1241300774.zip Hope this helps -
Remote Debug with custom menus
Mark Balla replied to Mark Balla's topic in Development Environment (IDE)
It turns out it is eaiser than I thought. If you right click in the lower left over the message text it gives you the option to open the BD. It doesn't matter how the menus are setup. This works in LV 8.5 -
Remote Debug with custom menus
Mark Balla replied to Mark Balla's topic in Development Environment (IDE)
QUOTE (jpdrolet @ Apr 7 2009, 10:04 AM) Thanks, I would have never got that one on my own. -
I've use Remote Debug in the past but in my current application I have a custom menu. When I try to use the remote debug feature on my exe I am unable to bring up the remote block diagram. I am able to open subvis and see and probe their BD just not the Main vi. Does anyone know of another way to bring up the Main's BD aside from Ctrl-E or Windows->Show Block Diagram During remote debug? Thanks Mark

NI Has a realy nice free student trainning series found here Each section has a Tutorial, Video and Excercise. These are great for people getting started with LabVIEW. You'll find a section on loops and state machines.

QUOTE (PJM_labview @ Dec 12 2008, 02:47 PM) I agree this is a definite con. Does anyone know of a way scripting or otherwise that can programmatically add and remove vis from a polymorphic.vi If we could come up with a tool to do this it would minimize the problem. -
How to programatically determine type of controls in a cluster
Mark Balla replied to Imagineer's topic in LabVIEW General
QUOTE (Imagineer @ Dec 11 2008, 12:44 PM) The easiest way to do this would be to use the Class name property of the control. shown below Download File:post-584-1229061599.vi I also have many ways to classify controls as variants let me know if you need more help. QUOTE (Imagineer @ Dec 11 2008, 12:44 PM) Also will it be possible to remove border visibility of a cluster in front panel, so I can have a structured program without getting reflected in front panel? To make a cluster border transparent Select the paintbrush tool Place it on the border of the cluster right click to bring up the color pallet. move the cursor to the T in the upper right corner then press the F key for (foreground) -

How Mike A. really feels about video blogging
Mark Balla replied to Norm Kirchner's topic in LAVA Lounge
QUOTE (Norm Kirchner @ Dec 5 2008, 11:37 PM) You got to admit it’s a pretty radical change of position. From giving the camera the bird to talking about how disappointing a gyroscope is as a toy. You think that maybe he’s a closet Republican. -

How to make my default "sub vi terminal pattern"
Mark Balla replied to Cool-LV's topic in Development Environment (IDE)
QUOTE (jcarmody @ Nov 19 2008, 05:07 AM) QUOTE (orko @ Nov 19 2008, 12:59 PM) It is often more of a pain to fix the funky connector pane, un-necessary wire bends, weirdly named labels, and general mess that this tool creates than it would be to just cut and paste the section of code you want into a new VI block diagram. So do you use the Fixer or not? Many of the complants you have stated are addressed by the fixer. What use to take me 3 minutes in cleanup time now takes 20 seconds. If you are not using it I would like to hear why. Right now I'm working on modifications to it and would love to hear any feedback. Mark -

Along the same lines does anyone know how to get the docking station number out of windows? I have a laptop that travels between 3 different docking stations. Each has a different setup and I would like to differentiate between them so I can set them up accordingly. Thanks,
