Michael Aivaliotis
What did you guys think of the new features announced for LabVIEW 2021 at NIConnect today? Quote Link to comment
infinitenothing
I'm still watching the presentation. I didn't realize it was at the same time as the "digital transformation" presentation. I'm curious to see how well the Git integration works. Also, I don't understand how the "chat pod" works. It made me think we need a discord channel. Quote Link to comment
bjustice
I don't understand this website. They are pushing this whole "chat with other attendees", but there are no chatrooms? You have to search for someone by name? 2 Quote Link to comment
gleichman
Better autowire sounds trivial, but could be a time saver. Quote Link to comment
Jordan Kuehn
The SFTP stuff stood out to me. WebDAV has never been great with cRIOs for me. I'm happy to ditch an old toolkit that's not maintained and work with native tools. Quote Link to comment
SteveE
Better GIT integration is fine, I use TortoiseGIT and have had LVCompare integrated for several years. Shame LVCompare is only available to those with a Professional license, LVCompare should be available on all licenses, to encourage use of SCC. 1 Quote Link to comment
SteveE
When quitting LV, message showing whats running , thats good, does it have the option to either jump to or quit them individually. It seem like it has take onboard a bit of LAVA, LabVIEW Task Manager functionality. Quote Link to comment
Bruniii
I had missed the talk, is it possible to watch it on demand? Quote Link to comment
Jordan Kuehn
I caught this slide: Quote Link to comment

They said that the presentations would be available later, but they aren't yet. Probably because there are still live ones today. Quote Link to comment
Michael Aivaliotis
The LabVIEW 2021 video is available as a recording already. https://connect.ni.com/media/What's New in LabVIEW 2021/1_rdnutigi Super, minor "features". Grasping at straws here. Quote Link to comment
hooovahh
I'm interested in 64 bit RT and SFTP. Python and Matlab integration is cool but not likely something I see using. And there had better be a new icon number. If there is that will be my number one new features of LabVIEW 2021. Quote Link to comment

PiDi
Just watched it, it's underwhelming. The first feature was "improved Matlab integration" followed by Python... You don't really expect much if they start with better 3rd party software integrations. And then there was the Future of LabVIEW slide: That's just a bunch of generic slogans and integrations of niche products... Don't see any clear idea of the direction here. Quote Link to comment
JKSH
For those who don't want to watch the video, the list of improvements is also published in the Public Beta: https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-2021-Public-Beta/LabVIEW-2021-Beta-Now-Available/td-p/4144143 2 hours ago, PiDi said: You don't really expect much if they start with better 3rd party software integrations. I don't think that's a bad thing. NI can't exist as a silo and still hope to be relevant to the rest of the world. Better interoperability makes it easier to justify using LabVIEW in a multi-technology environment (which is often the case in large organizations), and makes it easier for scientists and engineers to start using LabVIEW. 2 hours ago, PiDi said: And then there was the Future of LabVIEW slide: ... The second half of the list sounds like the porting over of features from NXG, which seems like a sensible direction (consolidate existing features before coming up with new ones) Quote Link to comment
ShaunR
SFTP is a big one. It means I don't have to implement it Quote Link to comment

mcduff
Maybe not a new feature, but somewhere in the talk they mentioned a 2021 LabVIEW license would give you access to Windows, Linux, and Mac versions, no separate purchases required. 1 Quote Link to comment

O RLY? I'm not a Mac or Linux desktop user, but that might give me a reason to experiment in Linux and LabVIEW if the license and software is included with our SSP. Quote Link to comment
Francois Normandin
Quote "Improved Python node now supports 3.6 through 3.9" We've been calling 3.9 with LabVIEW 2019 without a glitch. Not exactly sure what "support" means in this context. _ _ _ Different topic... If the statement below were a regular expression, wouldn't a "?" be more appropriate? It would stand a better chance of matching at least one element 😉 1 Quote Link to comment

Let's be positive and hopeful. I'm looking forward to playing with G Web Dev Software. Quote Link to comment

I was beginning to work with the NXG version and integrate it into some of our products. Then stomped on the brakes when they cancelled NXG. Now that it looks like they’ll make good on spinning it off into a standalone product I’ll be giving it a fresh look. Especially now that we have a SystemLink license. Quote Link to comment
infinitenothing
When is LV2021 being released? Seems a bit odd to get everyone excited and then not have the product immediately available. Quote Link to comment

Remember back than when National Instruments changed to NI and from blue to green? There was a chat and they got a hell of a shitstorm. I would asume they tried to prevent that from happening again. Even existing licenses will get this "feature". So one license fits all OSes. The restriction with user or computer based will still stay the same. Quote Link to comment
